When I make mine I all ways only heat it just enough that everything is melted and smooth , then i mix very well to be sure that all marshmallows are coated with the peanut butter mixture. You can also cover with saran wrap when finished spreading it in tray and press down to make sure the marshmallows are evenly distributed.
